robert approached james agutter of the university's architectural program regarding explorations into evolving the original artwork concept into an interactive installation. james initiated a research course which i engaged fully, followed by a team-based interactive design course which i also participated in.
my team evaluated the qualities of the light pipe and the spatial context of the installation. our ideas developed into a consideration of sunset colors and rates of gradation. we chose a human centered design concept around the idea of having pedestrians of the sky-bridge unknowingly cause the colors to mix and shift along the long light pipe as they crossed and paused. my work on the course project, precedented by my research project, focused on the technical reality of the interactive concept.
our final presentation for the course was more than an expressed concept - it was a truly interactive functioning prototype - however - in the end, robert did not have approval to implement a dynamically interactive system for his art installation
